LaToya M. Garcia began working for the New York City Department of Education in 2011. After teaching elementary level General and Special Education in grades 2 through 5 she continued her journey in the education field in the capacity of school administrator. LaToya is currently the Assistant Principal at P.S. 12 in Brownsville, Brooklyn, NY. She loves to inspire and encourage students to be their best selves in and out of the classroom.

While working in NYC Department of Education schools, LaToya has had the opportunity to refine her ability to delve deep into data analysis, root cause analysis and action plan development through DataWise. These skills have allowed her to assist with improving instructional outcomes overall.

Mrs. Garcia has spent the last 9 years leading numerous projects and teams including best practices for special education as the chair of the School Implementation Team, Progress Monitoring of the school CEP and instructional focus as a lead on the Instructional Leadership Team, and additional school improvement plans targeting various metrics for student success such as attendance and academic performance.

LaToya grew up in Massachusetts and received a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and a minor in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts-Amherst. Mrs. Garcia completed her Masters in General and Special Education from New York University and became certified in Educational Leadership at the College of Saint Rose. She holds the following New York State education credentials: General Education and Special Education 1-6 teaching, General Education and Special Education Birth through 2 teaching, School Building Leader and School District Leader.

In her capacity as an educator, LaToya has provided professional development and coaching for teachers and other school-based staff. She is amazed by her students, colleagues and the families that she serves each and every day. She feels grateful for the opportunity to touch the lives of such a diverse student body here in New York City.
