Relationships with Staff, Students, Parents and Community

These are sample newsletters that I drafted. Beginning during the 2017-2018 school year, I designed a newsletter and distributed it weekly to staff. The newsletter provides staff with any pertinent information regarding the school and the DOE. It also recognizes staff and their classes for their achievements their support in various areas.

During the 2017-2018 school year, we began an initiative where 5th grade students would apply to be valedictorian and salutatorian of the graduating class. I created a letter for students and parents detailing the requirements. I also created a rubric that would be used. Students submitted their applications and I sat as a member of the committee to interview the students.

I have developed positive relationships with our parents. I sit in on many meetings alongside the parent coordinator and other school staff. I also interact with families via telephone and email to ensure that any concerns are addressed and to provide my support in any way. This artifact contains samples of ways that I have supported families via email.
Since the 2018-2019 school year I have served at the BRT Leader. Each year I organize the Town Hall Safety Meeting that is open to the school community. I draft the agenda and create a flyer to be shared with all community members. This meeting allows parents to have an insight into safety concerns across the city and the procedures that we have put in place in our campus building.
Professionalism

To improve my educational knowledge and to stay abreast in the field of education, I attend professional development sessions whenever possible. These professional developments include: ASCD in Orlando, ASCD in Boston, SDE in Las Vegas, Student Led Conferences in New York, Teacher's College Reunion Workshops in New York and more. Attached please find some documentation related to the registration and completion of some of these workshops.

During my first year as an assistant principal (2017-2018), I engaged in monthly reflections about what I had learned about that month and how I would use my learning to improve my practice as an assistant principal. These are a few of the reflections. This practice was helpful for me in processing all that had taken place, critically evaluate my own practice and plan next steps.

During the 2017-2018 school year, I presented the Datawise work that we were doing in the school to fellow Assistant Principals in the district and to district 17 staff. It provided them with an introduction to how we were using Datawise to improve instruction and student outcomes in our school and provided them with ideas as to how they could use Datawise to move instruction in their own schools and across the district as a whole. This was done during an assistant principal's meeting. This allowed me to share my professional knowledge with my colleagues.
